1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear;
Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.
4 One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.
6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
Sarah, Have you found a church to go to since you've moved?

ugh, i've started the beating that is church shopping. i tried this morning to visit a congregation that i've never visited, looked them up on the internet, should have been warned by the fact that they haven't updated their website in 2 years.
got to the building, walked in, heard keyboard music and saw a lady in charge and promptly walked out. turned around and saw the realty sign that said "SOLD" in big letters.
so tonight i visited a congregation i've visited a few times where i have some friends, and it was fine. i'll visit there a few weeks before checking out other congregations.
what a beating church hunting is.

Good luck in your search, sarahk. I think that finding the church is one of the most important choices a person can make.

What kind of church are you looking for? Are there any specific things? Doesn't sound like you are having very much fun. Sorry :(

Ah the verse that was the inspiration for one of my most favorite worship songs... "Whom Shall I Fear". It's always fun to play drums to it.

That's beautiful Sarah. Sometimes though it seems God is far away.

thanks for the encouraging words, y'all.
Pam and Ryan, sometimes i have a hard time figuring out where that place is, but i know if i'll just listen He'll tell me what i need to know.
i agree, jason, it's crucial to find the right place. that's why church hunting is such a drain; it tends to take everything out of me, and this is the third time in 2 years that i've had to find a new congregation.
Kara, i'm a member of the church of Christ; there are 10 or so congregations here in town, so i'm sure i'll find the right one. i don't care if there are people my age, etc., but it is hard to find people as conservative in their views as i am. but if none of these 10 fits, there are lots of small towns around here; i'm willing to drive. :) i'm conservative fiscally, religiously, and politically, i'd drive California crazy!
Joel, i'm not sure i've heard that song, but i love the title.
Donna, you're so right, sweetie. i've felt so far from God for a lot of this year, and other times i've felt closer to Him than ever. i really struggle with staying close to Him, and it really makes me mad at myself, because He's always there, i just tend to wander away, or worse, just float around ignoring Him. i feel best and most at peace when i'm reading my Bible every day and listening to what God says.

The song is by Darrell Evans and here's the lyrics, enjoy!
I will seek You, Lord,
While I am in my youth
I will serve You, Lord,
and I'll proclaim Your truth
For You searched and found me,
while I was far away
And in my troubled times, You
always keep me safe.
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
The Lord is my light, and my salvation
Whom shall I fear, Whom shall I fear
The Lord is the stronghold of my life
Whom shall I fear, Whom shall I fear

The following sites can be very helpful when coming to a decision to find a church home, and to help discern the teachings of the one you are in. These are trusted and very Biblical pastors and teachers. they can help you on your journey. I have many more that I listen to, a wide range of denominational backgrounds, which all agree on the essentials.
You will not find a perfect church, none exist. But there are conservative Bible teaching churches and there are liberal non-Bible believing churches, and there are so called Christian churches that have added their own stuff and thrown out the stuff they don't agree with in God's Word, His 66 love letters to mankind.
Anyway, when you get a chance check these out.
God bless you SarahK. :o)
