teaching assistant

I just saw Azkaban this morning... it is my favorite of the three, although it felt a bit rushed, but director Alfonso Cuaron did a good job with stuff like inserting Harry's first flight on Buckbeak, as it could have felt a lot more rushed. I wish some things hadn't been cut out. I wanted to see more of Harry's problems trying to get his Patronus to work... speaking of the Patronus charm, we do know in book 3 that his takes the form of a stag, and if I remember correctly, Harry uses the Patronus once in book 4 (except that "dementor" was a boggart). But Harry has to use the Patronus a lot more in book 5 ("Dudley Demented", etc.), and Lupin (at the request of Mad Eye Moody) asks Harry what shape his Patronus takes to make sure that it's actually Harry he's talking to and not someone who has taken a polyjuice potion or something like that.

Like you, I wish the movie had explained who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs were... it would have explained stuff about the Marauder's Map and also why Harry's Patronus takes the form of a stag.

In case you haven't seen the new incarnation of JK Rowling's website, it's http://www.jkrowling.com/ and I found out a ton of things I didn't know before about HP characters.

yeah, i do remember that we knew the Patronus takes the form of a stag, but i was thinking about the stag galloping around the room and really making its presence known.

i agree, i would have liked to see more of the Patronus struggle, because Harry really had a lot of problems with it.

yeah, i know there's a lot with the Marauder's Map in book 4, and maybe that's where they explain, i remember there's more detail about it there.

thanks for the comment and the link, i'll check it out.

Back from my trip to Michigan and Ottawa, IL, had a blast with my family. I finished re-reading Prisoner of Azkaban on the plane. Had been years since I read it the first time. Haven't seen the movie...YET! Going to see Shrek 2 next weekend, not sure who I can talk into seeing Potter with me. They don't explain who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs were in the movie? That is important so you understand the relationship of Sirrus, James Potter, Lupin, and Pettigrew. So how does Harry sneak get out of the castle and get to town without the map? And in the next books the map is important when the gang does their own studies. I think I need to reread Goblet of Fire which I think was my favorite book in the series. Looks like I might be hitting the Movie Tavern this week by myself during the day when it is baking here!

I saw it last night as well. I think my only complaint (and it is a small one) also has to be the lack of explanation of the origins of the Marauder's Map. Other than that, I thought it was an excellent movie. I am forced to wonder, however, how they will fit a story as long as Goblet into a movie time slot.

Your review makes me want to see it even more! I just finished rereading book 3 so I'm ready for it on the big screen. :-)

the movie's a blast, i can't wait to see it again.

icthus13, i hope Goblet is 4 or 5 hours long. :)

venus, heya! glad you had a nice trip. no, harry does have the marauder's map, but they don't explain how the marauder's map came to be. but i'm thinking that might not happen till book 4 anyway. i'm going to look... Goblet was my favorite too.

I always thought you called us "musies". Isn't that our readers title? I always liked it.

ah, you are correct, Kara! i'm glad you're paying attention, since i'm not! duh, SarahK!
