Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain
we can carry nothing out.
And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare,
and into many foolish and harmful lusts
which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil,
for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life,
to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession
in the presence of many witnesses.
One of these days I really need to crack a bible and get thru it.
First time I ever tried it was with a highlighter just for the purpose of arguing with it, which didn't last long, because that's not really a very rewarding way to read any long work. :P

i've read every part of the Bible, most of it several times (especially the New Testament), but i've never read cover-to-cover. i kinda feel guilty about that, because i can pick up my favorite novel and its sequel (both over 600 pages) and read cover-to-cover in 5 days, but i never manage to pick up the Greatest Book Ever Written and read it cover-to-cover. it's definitely on my list of things to do, though.

Have you tried using a daily planner? I use one and it is a big help. Not that I manage to read every day like I should but with its help I have managed to read my bible completely. I have read the Old Testament 20 or so times and the New Testament 40 or so times since childhood till now. I was lucky that my folks brought me up reading with a schedule. If you want a planner a good one can be found at http://www.christadelphia.org/chart.pdf
I would just cut out each month and use it as a bookmarker.
So re: "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life...", the Word of God is called the Sword of the Spirit by Paul in Ephesians 6:17. So if you want to be properly armed in the fight against sin, read, read, read!!
God Bless

thanks for the comment, Kara, and i will most definitely check out the planner. i've been needing to get one, and if there's one online, it's much more likely that i'll actually get around to it!
God Bless you.
