today, i just might throw a fit. and i haven't thrown a real-live genuine fit in a few months, so stand back folks. of course, i'm a bit conflicted, so i might throw a fit and then cheer and then rant some more and then jump up and down for joy, etc. so if you're not in the mind or mood to be confused, you may want to move along.
so i awoke this morning and had an email from the warehouse. a ticketing email, my first as a member of the DMB fan club, woohoo!! woohoo? whoa-ho. i quickly scanned down the list to see when the band would be coming to dallas, hoping it would be before my move to arizona. and ya know what? they're not coming here. and ya know why? BECAUSE LAST SUMMER WHEN THEY WERE HERE, THEY WERE TREATED WITH SUCH DISRESPECT BY THE CROWD THAT I'M SURE THEY DON'T WANT TO PLAY HERE ANYMORE. after last summer's concert, i seriously considered emailing the band and apologizing for the behavior of the metroplex fans. where i was sitting, my friend jenny and i were the only ones who actually stayed in our seats. EVERYONE ELSE WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY WERE AT A COLLEGE FRAT PARTY. now, i'm all for hanging out with friends and having fun. BUT IF YOU JUST WANT TO DRINK A LOT OF BEER AND SMOKE A LOT OF POT, FIRST OF ALL, DON'T, AND SECOND OF ALL, DON'T SAVE IT ALL UP FOR YOUR NEXT DMB CONCERT. STAY HOME. there was not a moment during the entire show that the stairs in our section didn't have someone trampling up or down them on a beer run. and when pay for what you get came on, you would have thought the intermission musak had just begun, because there was a mass beer exodus. BTW, DMB doesn't even take an intermission. they play for 2.5-3 hours straight through, and they really put on the best show. AND I JUST WANTED TO HANG MY HEAD IN SHAME THAT I WAS EVEN ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DISRESPECTFUL CROWD WHO COULDN'T HAVE CARED LESS. when the end of the show came, jenny and i both said, wow, that was a short concert. but no, it wasn't short, it was just filled with distraction and annoyance. and when i got the cd a couple of weeks later, i realized that this concert, musically, was the better of the two i've been to. they played don't drink the water, minarets (!!!), the last stop, crush, ants, the maker, watchtower, and it was mostly wasted on a bunch of idiots who don't understand that this is not spring break at padre, this is fantastic musical PLATINUM. ok, i think i can stop ranting now. but anyway, the closest they're coming to dallas is houston, and i never go to houston on purpose. well, they're also playing selma, but i don't quite know where that is, i think austin. but anyway, when they come to texas, i'll already be a transplant.
but as it would turn out, it's ok. i will have made my move to arizona when they come to phoenix in august (HOORAY!!!!!!!!!), so i will go there and hopefully be stuck with a better crowd. i'll be buying two tickets on friday when they go on sale, so one of you lucky people will get to go with me. of course, you'll need to pay me back for your ticket, because i'm poor now, but you get to go with me and have good seats because they'll be warehouse seats.
and may i just say that i love this about the DMB: all tickets at their concerts are the same price, roughly $50. if you're on the front row, if your nose is bleeding from altitude, if you're in a great section of fans, IF YOU'RE IN A REALLY BAD SECTION OF FANS, you pay the same price. of course, maybe if DMB would charge more, it would keep out some of the MUSICALLY UNAWARE college crowd.
and AMY BARKER, if you're listening, i'm still planning on going to one of the concerts at the gorge with you, so we need to coordinate who's ordering what tickets, etc. call me, bebe! or i'll call you, whatever.
have a great day everyone!
